Hello and welcome back to the blog, today we are going to look at the top ten private universities in Nigeria

The tertiary Educational sector in Nigeria has been in a state of disarray for many years due to the federal government’s inability to finance the country’s educational sector to a maximum level.

Despite numerous setbacks from the federal government, some federal universities have done well in imparting knowledge to students.

Some private universities in Nigeria have also raised the standard of education, with the majority ranking as the best universities in Nigeria.

To improve tertiary education, some prominent individuals and churches of different states contributed to establishing private universities, which have aided the expansion of the tertiary education system.

They have advanced education and contributed to Nigeria’s low unemployment rate by providing job opportunities for lecturers.

Covenant University 

Located in Otta, Ogun state, Covenant University is one of the leading and most prestigious universities in Nigeria.

It is a private Pentecostal Christian university founded in 2002 and is known for spirituality and innovation. 

It is affiliated with the Living Faith church worldwide and is also a member of the Association of commonwealth universities, Association of African universities, and the national university commission.

The university was founded by pastor David Oyedepo who is currently the university’s chancellor.

Covenant university has beautiful structures and a well-equipped medical center for students. The university has four faculties:  Engineering, leadership and development studies, science technology, and the college of management and social sciences. 

Babcock University

Babcock University is a premier private Christain university located in Ilishan Remo Ogun state. It is second on the list of top ten private universities in Nigeria.  It was established in 1959 and was accredited by the Government in 1999. The university has a student population of more than 10000.

The university offers courses and programs for higher education degrees, such as Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Postgraduate degrees.

In several disciplines, admission is open to both national and international students, which are based on entrance examinations and past academic grades or records. 

Babcock University also has facilities such as well-furnished and conducive lecture halls, halls of residence, and residential and office buildings.

JABU is one of the private universities that offer both full-time and part-time courses and is a fully residential institution. 

The university offers courses in Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Humanities, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, and Health Sciences.

Bowen University

Bowen University is a private Christian university in Iwo, Osun state, southwestern Nigeria. 

The university was established in 2001 for teaching and research. Bowen University students are instilled with a combination of academic excellence and love for humanity and God. 

It is a Christian university with bachelor’s degree programs spanning Agriculture, Education, Medicine, Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, and so on.

Redeemer’s University

The university was founded by the Redeemed Christian Church of God in 2005. Headed by the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, a PhD holder in applied mathematics.

Igbinedion University

Regarded as the first licensed private university in Nigeria, Igbinedion university was founded in 1999 by Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion as a profit-making institution. 

The University is individually owned and has no religious affiliation, thus welcoming students from different religions and cultures across the country. 

This makes its student population very diverse and books it a slot on the top ten private universities in Nigeria.

The American University of Nigeria is a private university in Yola, the capital of Adamawa, Nigeria. 

It was founded by a former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, along with other statesmen in 2004.

The goal of the university is to train the future leaders of Africa and to serve as both a stimulus and agent of economic development throughout the region. 

All students, regardless of their academic specialization, receive high-level training in information technology, entrepreneurship, and arts and sciences, which are the key to future sustainable development.

Afe Babalola University.

Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) is a private university in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. It was founded by a lawyer and philanthropist, Afe Babalola, in 2009. 

The  University offers Academic programs in six Colleges: Sciences, Law, Engineering, Social and Management Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Postgraduate Studies. 

Their Engineering College is reputed to be one of the largest in Africa. Former President Goodluck Jonathan inaugurated the university.

Landmark University 

Landmark University is a private Christian university established by the Living Faith Church in 2011. The university is located in Omu-Aran, Somewhere in Kwara State, north-central Nigeria. 

The University was established to meet the agricultural needs of Nigeria, seeing the lack of skilled manpower in the agricultural sector. 

They trains its students in areas of Farming and agriculture. Landmark offers degree programs in various courses such as agriculture, Sciences, Engineering, Social science, Arts and Management courses.

The University has a diverse student body with students from different cultural backgrounds in the country.

The Bells University of Technology offers degree programs in courses across agriculture, sciences, engineering, Arts, management and social science. 

The University fees are affordable to several Nigerians. It has no religious Affiliation, so it welcomes students from different religious backgrounds.

It has a Medium sized student population and admission is relatively competitive, and it also provides its students with accommodation.
