The tertiary Educational sector in Nigeria has been in a state of disarray for many years due to the federal government’s inability to finance the country’s educational sector to a maximum level.

Despite numerous setbacks from the federal government, some federal universities have done well in imparting knowledge to students.

Some private universities in Nigeria have also raised the standard of education, with the majority ranking as the best universities in Nigeria.

To improve tertiary education, some prominent individuals and churches of different states contributed to establishing private universities, which have aided the expansion of the tertiary education system.

They have advanced education and contributed to Nigeria’s low unemployment rate by providing job opportunities for lecturers.

Covenant University 

Located in Otta, Ogun state, Covenant University is one of the leading and most prestigious universities in Nigeria.

It is a private Pentecostal Christian university founded in 2002 and is known for spirituality and innovation. 

It is affiliated with the Living Faith church worldwide and is also a member of the Association of commonwealth universities, Association of African universities, and the national university commission.

The university was founded by pastor David Oyedepo who is currently the university’s chancellor.

Covenant university has beautiful structures and a well-equipped medical center for students. The university has four faculties:  Engineering, leadership and development studies, science technology, and the college of management and social sciences.

Babcock University

Babcock University is a premier private Christain university located in Ilishan Remo Ogun state. It is second on the list of top ten private universities in Nigeria.  It was established in 1959 and was accredited by the Government in 1999. The university has a student population of more than 10000.

The university offers courses and programs for higher education degrees, such as Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Postgraduate degrees.

In several disciplines, admission is open to both national and international students, which are based on entrance examinations and past academic grades or records. 

Babcock University also has facilities such as well-furnished and conducive lecture halls, halls of residence, and residential and office buildings.

The university offers courses in Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Humanities, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, and Health Sciences.

Bowen University

Bowen University is a private Christian university in Iwo, Osun state, southwestern Nigeria.

Redeemer’s University

Afe Babalola University.

Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) is a private university in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. It was founded by a lawyer and philanthropist, Afe Babalola, in 2009.

It has a Medium sized student population and admission is relatively competitive, and it also provides its students with accommodation.
